Same machine, two names
Cross trainer, elliptical, elliptical trainer — all the same thing
People search for all three and mean one machine: the one you stand on, with pedals that travel in an oval and handlebars that move with you. We call them cross trainers out of habit. If you have been searching for an elliptical, you are in the right place.
Joints
Nothing hits the ground
Your feet never leave the pedals, so there is no impact travelling up through the ankles, knees and hips the way there is on a treadmill. It is the usual reason people move across to one.
Whole body
Arms and legs at once
The moving handlebars push and pull while the pedals drive, so the upper body works alongside the legs instead of holding a rail. More muscle involved for the same time on the machine.
Room
Quieter than you expect
Magnetic resistance and a belt drive, so there is no motor and no thumping. The Ex7 and the V-200 each take about 1.5 x 0.7 m of floor and roll away on transport wheels when you are done.
The range
Four machines — three to hire, one to own
Hire terms are 1, 3 or 6 months and the longer terms cost a good deal less per month. Delivery and setup is $50 on top, and hire comes off the purchase price if you decide to keep it.

Hire — entry
BodyworX Ex7 Cross Trainer
The straightforward one, and the one most first-time hirers take. Dual-action arms and pedals over friction-free magnetic resistance, a quiet belt drive and eight manual programs — enough to vary the work without a menu to learn. Heavy-duty steel frame, hand pulse sensors, transport wheels on the front.
1.46 x 0.67 m assembled, 1.58 m tall. Up to 110 kg user weight.
Hire $140 for one month • $240 for three • $360 for six

Hire — programmable
Aussie Fit V-200 Cross Trainer
The same money as the Ex7 with a lot more on the console: a multi-colour LCD, twelve pre-set profiles, four of your own, five heart-rate-controlled programs, a watt program, a fitness test and a pulse recovery score. Bottle holder, storage rack, transport wheels and floor levellers.
1.20 x 0.74 m assembled, 1.73 m tall. Up to 120 kg user weight.
Hire $140 for one month • $240 for three • $360 for six

Hire — best equipped
BodyworX E916 Cross Trainer
Our best-equipped home elliptical. It comes with a chest strap and a built-in receiver, so the heart-rate programs hold you in a target zone rather than guessing from your palms. It will also work out your body fat percentage, BMI and BMR and suggest a program to match.
Twelve pre-set profiles, four user programs, five heart-rate programs and a watt program. Up to 130 kg user weight.
Hire $160 for one month • $320 for three • $600 for six

Commercial — to buy or rent to own
F1-8618 Commercial Crosstrainer
The gym-floor machine — and the one plenty of people put in a spare room at home. Self-generating, so it needs no power point at all — you power it. Heavy-gauge high-strength steel, oversized foot pedals, fifty programs plus two of your own, heart-rate control and a 180 kg user capacity. Two years parts and one year labour.
2.10 x 0.60 m assembled, 1.65 m tall. This one is not available for hire.
$2,499 to buy • or rent to own at $24 a week over 24 months
How it works
Four steps, and nothing to pay online
You pay the driver when the machine arrives, by cash, card or Afterpay. There is no deposit and no contract to sign.
1. Pick a term
One, three or six months. Three is the usual starting point — long enough to know whether it has become part of the week.
2. Tell us where
Your suburb and anything we should know about the access. Stairs are fine, we just like to know first.
3. We deliver and set it up
Our own van and our own crew. It arrives assembled and ready to use, and we take the packaging away.
4. Extend, swap or hand it back
Extend at any point, or we collect it at the end. If you want to keep it, the hire comes off the purchase price.
Hire, rent to own or buy
Which way works out cheaper
The three home ellipticals are hire or buy. Hire one for a few months and whatever you have paid comes off the price if you decide to keep it, so trying one first costs you nothing in the end.
Rent to own on a cross trainer applies to the F1-8618 commercial machine only — $24 a week over 24 months, financed by humm, and it is yours at the end. If you would rather spread the cost on one of the home models, hire it and put the hire towards the purchase, or call and we will work out which way is cheaper for what you are doing.
Owner's manuals
Manuals for all four, free to download
A lot of people arrive here looking for a cross trainer manual rather than a machine to hire, so they are on the page rather than buried. No email address required.

Delivery
Delivery and setup from $50, Brisbane to the Gold Coast
Our own van, out of Yatala between the two cities, usually within a few days. The machine arrives assembled and ready to use, and we take it away again at the end at no charge.
Outlying areas can still be covered — we will tell you what applies before anything is booked.

Questions
What people ask about cross trainers
Is a cross trainer the same as an elliptical?
Yes. Cross trainer, elliptical, elliptical trainer and elliptical cross trainer all describe the same machine — pedals that travel in an oval and handlebars that move with you. The names vary by country and by brand more than by anything mechanical.
Which one should I start with?
The Ex7 if you want something simple and quiet, the V-200 for the same money if you like having programs and a fitness test, and the E916 if you want the chest strap and true heart-rate training. All three do the same job for the legs.
Can I rent to own a cross trainer?
Only the F1-8618, the commercial machine, at $24 a week over 24 months through humm. The three home models are hire or outright purchase. If you hire one and then decide to keep it, what you have paid in hire comes off the purchase price, which gets you to much the same place.
Does it need a power point?
The F1-8618 is self-generating — you power it, and it needs no power point at all. For the three home models, tell us which one you are after and we will confirm what it needs before delivery rather than guess here.
How long can I hire one for?
One, three or six months, and you can extend at any point. On the Ex7 and the V-200 that is $140 for a month, $240 for three or $360 for six — the six-month term works out at $60 a month. The E916 is $160, $320 or $600.
Is it easier on my knees than a treadmill?
Mechanically, yes — your feet stay on the pedals, so there is no landing impact travelling up through the ankles, knees and hips. That is the usual reason people move across from a treadmill. If you are working around an injury, take your physio’s advice on what suits you, not ours.
How much room do I need?
The V-200 is 1.20 x 0.74 m and 1.73 m tall, the Ex7 1.46 x 0.67 m and 1.58 m tall, and the F1-8618 2.10 x 0.60 m and 1.65 m tall. Add your own height to the pedal rise when you check the ceiling, and leave a bit of room behind for the arms.
Do you deliver to the Gold Coast?
Yes. We are based at Yatala, between Brisbane and the Gold Coast, so both are standard delivery areas at $50 for delivery, setup and collection. Outlying suburbs can usually still be covered — check your suburb and we will tell you what applies.
How many calories does a cross trainer burn?
That depends on your weight and your effort. The daily calorie calculator works it out at 30, 45 and 60 minutes, and puts the cross trainer beside the treadmill, bike and rower so you can see how they compare before you choose.
Not sure which one, or how long for?
Tell us what you are training for and we will tell you which machine and which term makes sense. Twenty-six years of doing this around Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
